The history of Caribbean college essay

INTRODUCTION

The history of Caribbean is diversified and varies greatly having many versions over time. Though the society believes that the Caribbean was discovered by a single person called Columbus who adventured there first in search for gold deposits. But the truth is that there already existed settlers in Caribbean before the alleged discovery. For sure people lived in the Caribbean way back in 5000 B.C. With the main tribes being the Arawaks and the Caribs. These tribes used to engage in fight for long period of time. Later the tribes had to sit down and chat the way forward on how they could live together in peace so as to achieve common development goals. There after they ventured in various economic and social activities.

The Arawaks main activities was basket making and involvement in agricultural activities like planting and selling of produce from agriculture, while the Caribs were involved mostly in slave trade, weapon making for which they used to protect themselves and exchanged the same for food crops from the Arawaks. They also involved themselves in pottery and craft making.

Both tribes depended on marine life as their major source of food, they mostly ate; turtles, snails, lizards and birds.  They daily went for the catch would be put in a pepper pot to make delicious stew that was simmered and cooked for several weeks.
