The estimates taken between 1989 to 1999 report that Iran has a total growth of 15.5% of natural gas reserves. As compared to natural gas reserves, the oil reserves were only 2.5 % in terms of their productivity (Nasseri and Daya, 2007). Energy growth in terms of gas is much higher as contrasted against oil. The last years have seen the significance of natural gas reserves as major importance is given to natural gas and its resources. Iranian government has made natural gas its centre of attention and has consumed a lot in its production and enhancement on higher as well as lower levels (Ule and Alexander, 2004). Nevertheless, the truth can not be denied that Iran in terms of its share in the worldly trade has not appeared as the leader in spite of its having the resource to such an extent. It is still lacking in terms of productivity of natural gas and the distances that are present between the utilization centres of natural gas and natural gas supply centres are very long. Iran, is still struggling for the reputation of the World leader in supply of natural gas. (Petrochemical Industry and Market of Iran, 2005).

In 2001, it was reported that a total of 185 million cubic metres of natural gas was consumed within the country domestically. Before that, 178 million cubic metres of natural gas per day was consumed in the country (Ule and Alexander, 2004). In nearly 384 cities, 1,400,000 families employ natural gas. Gas is utilized as the major source of energy and fuel. In the year 2001, power plants that were domestic utilized 38.1 percent of supplied natural gas; household trade utilized 33.4 percent of supplied natural gas and factories and industries utilized 28.5 percent of supplied natural gas.
